Veterans Awards

Veterans Awards; The Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church invites all veterans and their families to share in our worship experience. Our speaker will be one of our own, Elder Benjamin J. Sellers. During the service, an award will be presented to, William Greason, an original Montford Point Marine who fought in the Pacific during WWII. This is significant because the Marine Corps did not accept Blacks into its ranks until President Roosevelt issued an executive order 8802. A special boot camp(Montford Point) was set up in North Carolina for the sole purpose of training black marine recruits before being sent to war. Montford Point accepted its first black marine in 1942 and this ridiculous practice continued until President Truman ended all segregated training in the military in 1948. The Montford Marine Association in 2012 was awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom, The highest civilian award that can be given to an organization. The Tuskegee Airman was the first military group to receive this award. November 10th 11 am Ephesus Church, 105 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL
