2012 Episcopal Place Gumbo Gala; Professional and backyard cook teams will gather to compete for the bragging rights to Birmingham's best gumbo. 40 cook teams will cook and serve gumbo as they compete for 10 awards for the best gumbo in town. An expected 2,000 people will enjoy sampling gumbo and listening to New Orleans-style Jazz music played by The Pineapple Skinners. The event, sponsored by Riverchase Carpet and Flooring in Pelham, also will feature vendors selling Cajun and seafood-related products. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide supportive services to the 148 seniors and disabled adults who live at Episcopal Place on fixed incomes.
