The 47th Annual Civil Rights Foot Soldiers Reunion that honors the ordinary men, women and children of the Birmingham Movement will be held. This year's reunion, themed "Health Care: The Right to Live," will feature a special tribute to the life and legacy of James Armstrong, a Birmingham barber and longtime civil rights activist who paved the way for school integration and other social justice issues for African Americans. The first night of commemoration activities will be hosted at First Baptist Church Kingston, one of 25 churches that held mass meetings during the turbulent '50s and '60s. The reunion's featured keynote speaker is Birmingham Mayor William A. Bell, Sr.

May 7 - Old-fashioned mass meeting at First Baptist Kingston, 4240 9th Avenue North (pastored by the Rev. T.N. Miller), starting at 6:30 p.m.

May 8 - Civil Rights Foot Soldier Re-enactment Parade, starting at 10 a.m. from Kelly Ingram Park
Family Fun Day at Kelly Ingram Park, from noon to 4 p.m., featuring oral histories from Civil Rights foot soldiers, spoken word performances, live bands and entertainment for toddlers to senior citizens.
