Dixie ABATE of Alabama - "Ride to the Capital"; Dixie ABATE will sponsor "Ride for Rights and Motorist Awareness", a police-escorted ride to the state capitol in Montgomery to promote safety and awareness and to kick off “Motorcycle Safety Month”, which has historically been the month of May. It is a short 7 mile ride from the starting point to the capitol. We need your support. Plan now to join us. This will be a proud moment for Dixie ABATE. Groups of riders from all over the state will unite and converge on the state capitol building in Montgomery to draw motorists' attention to the presence of motorcycles on our highways and to let Alabama's lawmakers know the motorcyclists in Alabama now have a strong voice.

This annual event is considered one of the best family-oriented entertainment events in Alabama. The Showcase of Bands has sixteen bands scheduled to perform. Bring your acoustic instruments and join in on the numerous “jams” that will occur throughout the day. All levels of musicians are encouraged to come! “This is a great opportunity to hear some of the best bluegrass bands in the State, and have the chance to pick with them and other musicians,” says Brent Warren, President of the ABMA. The ABMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of bluegrass music in Alabama. The ABMA provides a network of fans, musicians, promoters, vendors and other interested parties for the purpose.

Alabama Family Rights Association - (ALFRA); ALFRA is an organization that is fighting for GOOD/FIT parents (men & women) to be treated fairly when it comes to custody cases. ALFRA believe that every child needs both parents in the child's life to help bring up the child properly. ALFRA is not asking for parents with addictions, anger/violence, sexual/verbal abuse to be given access to their children. But too many times the courts will award full custody to just one parent. Children are more flexible than we give them credit for & would rather be able to spend time with both parents. Each parent brings different guidance to every child. Years later is when the effect starts to show up in negative ways for kids that were neglected by one of their parents. We need to give every child every opportunity to be brought in a loving environment which should include both parents, even if in different households. Learning from both parents & being loved/encouraged by both parents can only be positive for a child.

Tour de Blue: Cycling For Prostate Cancer Awareness; The Tour de Blue is a bicycle ride that benefits the Urology Health Foundation, a local non-profit organization that provides free prostate cancer screenings to men in Alabama, especially in under served areas that are at highest risk. The goal is to help raise funds for these screenings and to promote public awareness about the importance of early detection. Prostate cancer will affect 1 in 6 American men during their lifetime, and for African-American men the risk is even higher: 1 in 4. The bicycle ride leaves at 8:00 AM from the Birmingham Bicycle Company and meanders through Jefferson, Shelby, and St. Clair counties. There are three ride options (60, 75, and 100 miles). The terrain is rolling with several challenging climbs. The 100-mile route takes riders from the bike shop to the Logan Martin Dam and back.

The theme of this year’s event is Guiding Good Health, with keynote speakers Dr. Brian Chicoine and Dennis McGuide, Ph.D., with the Adult Down Syndrome Center in Chicago. Down Syndrome Alabama, also known as Parent Advocates for Down Syndrome, supports the adult Down syndrome clinic at UAB. The non-profit organization is dedicated to the awareness and acceptance of individuals of all ages with Down syndrome.

Trot for a Cot, Birmingham Women’s Junior Chamber of Commerce is hosting a fundraiser for Three Hots and A Cot helping Alabama’s homeless veterans. Three Hots and A Cot is a 501c3 organization (TAX ID # 26-4355458) formed by veterans to help veterans. Our primary mission is to assist homeless military veterans transition to a self sustained lifestyle. Three Hots and A Cot was formed in February 2009 as a 501c3 organization to meet the needs of the Homeless Veterans in the United States. We obtained a six bedroom home in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham in March of 2010. After extensive renovations of the home – called Saint Benedict’s Veterans Center – we opened up for housing on June 15, 2010 and provided a home for 12 veterans. Currently we have renovated the home to house seven veterans to comply with space requirements of the State and Federal guidelines. In October of 2010 we took ownership of a 15 bedroom – seven bath home in the Center Point area of Birmingham.
